Kidderminster 0 - 3 Birmingham City
26 July 2014
Attendance: 3.928 (2,481)
Birmingham continued their good start to pre-season with a 3-0 win away at Kidderminster. 2,481 travelling fans went down in the sunshine to see Birmingham capitalise on defensive errors to get ahead before Donaldson`s well taken goal to finish the game off.
Lee Clark opted for a 4-4-2 for this game and the first chance game to Lee Novak as he saw his tamed shot smothered by Danny Lewis. Birmingham were very dangerous down both wings with Duffy and Cotterill.
Cotterill tested the goalkeeper twice in two minutes, the first was a dipping shot from the left and then a freekick that was tipped over.
The Welshman remained involved, Cotterill headed away and released Wes Thomas from a corner, his pace forced a defensive lapse and he fired home for 1-0 (37th). Birmingham went in at half time ahead after a good save from Darren Randolph, preventing Craig Reid`s promising strike.
Just half a minute into the second half and Thomas had scored his second, a lay off from Novak saw Thomas stroke past Lewis. Duffy was next to go close after working his way into the box and lifting the ball over the keeper; Obeng got back to clear from off the line.
With 34 minutes left the game saw 13 changes from a combination of the managers and the game slowed from its fierce pace. Donaldson controlled Hancox`s cross before placing the ball into the goal.
Birmingham also threated through a freekick, Gleeson saw his shot saved, though. Blues finished 3-0 after a comfortable performance made possible from a first half display of plenty of energy and some mistakes by the opposition.
Thomas got the goals to give Blues the win after persistent pace and good composure to finish the chances.
