Blues Earn A Point

Brentford U18's
1 - 1
Birmingham City U18's

Brentford's Training Ground

Monday 15th September; 3:00pm

Attendance: Unknown

Referee:

The young Blues' had chances to win the game, but a draw was fully deserved.

Brentford started the brighter team, and had several chances to punish the Birmingham City defensive frailties.

But the away side did look good on the counter attack. New boy, Poppa, with the pick of the chances just before the twenty minute mark.

The game was being dominated in the midfield section, neither team really stringing passes together. Overall, the first half fizzled out.

A 0-0 score line at half time reflected the game.

Brentford started the second half in the same fashion as they started the first. They took the lead just after half time. A free kick was not cleared by the back line, allowing Courtney Senior an easy finish.

Steve Spooner, the academy coach, will be delighted at his teams reaction to going a goal down. Within ten minutes, the scores were level.

Edji Mbunga set up the lively Poppa, to score his first goal for Birmingham City from 15 yards out. A great finish by a very good player.

The finish to the game was great from the away teams point of view. Constant attacks were putting pressure on the home side's back four, but they stayed resilient.

The Blues' just weren't clinical enough and missed several opportunities in the last ten minutes without even hitting the target.

Birmingham should have walked away winners from the game. But instead the game finished; 1-1.

Steve Spooner said after the game on the official website; 'We passed the ball better and we showed more creativity and movement than we did in the last game against Bristol City.

"I was disappointed we didn`t deal with Brentford`s goal better.'

"From then on in we looked much the better team and we could have quite easily scored three or four but we were guilty of missing the target.

"Overall we were slightly disappointed we didn`t take the three points given the chances we created within the last ten or 15 minutes."
