Birmingham City returned to winning ways with a back after dispatching Reading 6-1 at home.

The Royals were left shocked as Birmingham scored almost every chance they crafted in the first half. Gray had a hatrick before half time.

Carling Cup hero Nikola Zigic was back for Birmingham but had to settle for a place on the bench as Donaldson retains the confidence of the manager.

Jonathan Grounds cleverly played a freekick to Paul Caddis for him to score the first goal for Birmingham, a shot from outside the area into the top corner.

Reading put on the pressure but Blues resisted and made it 2-0. Gray picked up the ball and traveled some way before firing home.

The goal that was conceded was somewhat unlucky. A scuffed volley fell to Murray who headed over Randolph.

Another solo goal from Gray made it 3-1, restoring some comfort to the home side. Some quick feet from the youngster before he let fly at goal.

Birmingham looked slightly vulnerable at the back but managed to battle on and only concede the one. Reading actually gave a good go at the game.

A counter attack again led to a goal. Gray again would complete his hatrick after being played in by Davis. The balls played to Gray were all having a lot of success.

After the break Shinnie made it 5-1. He has been a total revaluation under Rowett and was sorely missed at Blackpool last week. Although, given the state of the pitch who knows if he would have been able to do much.

Cotterill the completing things for Birmingham with a freekick that floating past the keeper into the top corner. A bad day all round for the Reading keeper.

Fantastic result, didn't expect it at all. Put the Blackpool result to bed. In Rowett we trust.
