'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gaffers View: Man Utd home (1-1)

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admitted his side got lucky when they came up with a very late equaliser against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

But he also had time to praise his side for the way they performed in the game, especially after going behind.

'I feel that we got our reward for perseverance, good concentration, tactical awareness,' said McLeish.

'The players adhered to everything we asked them to do.

'United had a lot of possession but most of it was deep on the pitch which suited us. They cut us open at the start of the second half but we fought back well and got our reward.

The draw lifted Birmingham out of the bottom three. McLeish added.

'We are not at a safe distance away from the bottom of the table at present but these sort of points could be crucial, bonus points really.'
