'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gaffer's View - (Millwall Home)

Chris Hughton was left to sing the praises of young striker Chris Wood after he scored all three goals in the 3-0 demolition of Millwall.

It was Birmingham`s second win only of the season and the performance will not only give Woods a massive boost but the Blues as well as they set about climbing up the table.

The New Zealander`s treble took him to five goals in three appearances and Blues boss Hughton has praised the teenager's improvement.

'Chris is getting better with each game that he plays and each week that he is with us,' said Hughton.

'Anybody coming in and playing as regularly as he is now has an opportunity to develop his game and we are very grateful to West Brom.

'It is one that is working well both ways. We know the ability that he has got and he is able to do it on a regular basis now and we are delighted he is showing the form he is showing.

'I knew of his ability and what he did on loan last year but you are never sure how it will work out but this is one at the moment that is working out very well for us and Chris is enjoying it very much.'

Woods is a damn good striker, bet there is no chance of buying him outright is there?

I said from the off that Birmingham City are completely different from last season, including both playing and coaching staff. To expect results straight away is absurd. But one thing is for certain; McLeish had a stronger squad in the Championship and (from what I recall) didn't manage a win by more than 2 clear goals all season. Hughton's done it twice already and this can only be encouraged.
