Opposition's View - Chris Powell

Opposition's View - Chris Powell
Charlton boss Chris Powell was not disappointed with the 1-1 draw at Birmingham on Saturday, even though his side came close to a win.

Powells' men looked like they were going to celebrate their return to the Championship with a win after taking the lead through Leon Cort in the 81st minute.

But lanky striker Nikola Zigic had other thoughts and fired home a low shot that gave City a share of the spoils.

Powell told reporters after the game: 'We came to a big ground where you really have to earn the right to win a point. On one hand I am disappointed we dropped two points after getting so close to a win.

'But I have to give my team a lot of plaudits for the performance. Obviously we went so close but before the game I think people would have said to get a point at Birmingham was a real positive display.

'But you have to see a game right to the end. That is why Zigic cost 6million. He is quality and he showed that with his equaliser.

'We took the game to Birmingham and should have come away with a win. Another day we might not play so well and win. But it is a real confidence boost for the players, it gives them a belief in themselves that they can perform in the Championship.'

He was very lucky that blues were off form or they would have hammered his poxy side into the ground. Charlton look useless and it shows that they were in division three last season
