Talking Point: Pre Season

Talking Point: Pre Season

What a pre-season it has been for Blues so far. With the final game coming against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at St. Andrews on Saturday, Blues fans will be hoping for more of the same.

Some of the performances during this pre-season have been marvelous. The game against Notts County was the pick of the bunch for me. Blues were hard-working, confident, and they showed they can play too. The build up to Andrew Shinnie`s goal was excellent, let`s hope he can kick on now and become a useful player to the club. I also have to mention the performances of the young Reece Brown and Demarai Gray. They were outstanding, the energy and effort they put in is exactly what we`ll need this season. Clayton Donaldson is another one who stood out yet again. He`s now netted four goals in pre-season and Blues fans can hope he takes his great form into the new season.

Now moving onto the back line. Blues have yet to concede a single goal during pre-season, something that will come as a relief to Blues fans after the tragic defending of last season. Both centre-halves Gavin Gunning and Jonathan Grounds look composed and confident on the ball, and it`s great to see Will Packwood come back after injury.

Although it`s right to say we shouldn`t get carried away with Blues` form so far in pre-season, it comes as a relief to finally see some consistently. Putting a run of wins together will no doubt give the players some belief and confidence going into the first game at Middleborough. We`re finally scoring goals at will & looking solid at the back. Every player is working for the team and it`s fantastic to see.

Let`s hope Blues can take their fantastic pre-season form into the new season and give the fans something to shout about!

Blues fans, do you think it`s right to be optimistic about the new season following our good pre-season form? Let me know in the comments.

I think its right to be happy with pre-season, what is going to happen to the mood if we lose away at Middlesbrough?
31/07/2014 16:21:00
Well Chris we have to stay positive. If we don't pick up a result at Middlesbrough, it's still early days. The squad and the manager have to go into the new season with a positive view. I think we've got a good enough squad to stay out of trouble, just got to keep the consistency this season.
31/07/2014 16:26:00
I agree with what you're saying, no team has been anywhere near the level to test our defence though, not so sure we can credit them too much defensively
31/07/2014 17:32:00
Have to agree that we haven't been tested defensively much yet. But what I've seen so farm the new CB's we've brought in seem nice and confident on the ball which is always nice to see. But i totally get what your saying Harry, Blues will be tested a lot more over the coming weeks. Just hope they're up to the job!
31/07/2014 18:50:00
I hope they are up to it as well, do you think Robinson will come straight in for Middlesbrough? Who would be your partnership?
31/07/2014 23:07:00
I like Robinson because he's a leader and organiser. We're going to need that kind of character in the team so i'd pair him up with Gunning. Gunning seems very athletic and confident on the ball so i think he'd be a good fit with Robbo. What about you Harry?
01/08/2014 14:08:00
Blackett played CB last year for a couple of games.. Safe to say, I'm more confident this year. A settled defence is key, so consistency is a big thing. I'm confident with the strikers, wingers and defence. Just the midfield I think needs a new addition. Apparently Edgar can play in midfield. Anyone seen him play there?
01/08/2014 14:50:00
I was told by Vital Burnley that he played there for them and looked fine, so coming to the other end of the championship I think Edgar will be great if he is used as a holding midfielder. I also like Robinson, I wonder how many games we will get out of him?
02/08/2014 11:31:00
Edgar's played a few times in midfield and Clark has stated he'd like to use him in the CDM position. Looks very tidy on the ball and he'll give us that protection we'll need in front of the back four. I'd like to see him paired up with Adeyemi because i think Adeyemi has the box to box abilities. Like to see more of him going forward this season. As for Robbo, Clark will probably use him sparingly. he had a few injuries last season season and we'll want to keep as fit as possible because he's a vital player to us.
02/08/2014 11:57:00
Totally agree, he could work really well it's Adeyemi and tom breaking forward will create space for a centre forward to go into the channel or a winger do the same which I think Clark may want to utilise.
